NOW in Houston: OLD MEETS NEW

OLD MEETS NEW

If you’ve dropped into the Kroger on Montrose lately, you’ve seen something happening at La Colombe d’Or. The near-century-old historic mansion is undergoing a reno and expansion, and in mid-2020, it will unveil La Colombe d’Or Hotel & Residences. Spearheaded by architecture firm Munoz + Albin with interiors by Rottet Studio, the project will add a 34-story high-rise to the existing mansion, including 18 new hotel rooms, 255 residences and 10 penthouses. The design team kept with the historic origins of the hotel, incorporating lush green space inspired by French landscape design, and Mediterranean-style indoor-outdoor space. Like all of Rottet’s projects, clean lines, warm materials and an abundance of natural light are at the heart of the design concept, making the distinctly modern tower accessible and livable. “Every effort was given to place the building in its context,” says architect Jorge Munoz. Residences from $2,225 per month, 3410 Montrose Blvd., livelacolombedor.com
