Paper City Golden Column: La Colombe d’Or

Here’s a first look at the new La Colombe d’Or Hotel & Residences, currently under construction on Montrose Boulevard. The splendid 34-floor tower includes 265 residences and 10 penthouses and will connect to the historic 1923 La Colombe d’Or hotel via an art gallery and outdoor plaza. Eighteen new hotel suites will be added to the ground floor of the new tower, and the hotel’s room will be gently renovated to preserve their original character. Houston’s Zimmerman family, the hotel’s proprietors for 36 years, has partnered on the venture with global real estate firm Hines. Some of Houston’s biggest design talents are involved, including interior designer Lauren Rottet, Rottet Studio; architect Jorge Munoz, Munoz + Albin Architecture and Planning; general contractor Urban Oaks Builders; and landscape architect Robinson & Company.

Tower renderings reveal sleek design aspects, such as a two-story lobby with an abundance of natural light and warm materials. An adjacent living area has a fireplace and live-oak views. Apartment residences include kitchens with Italian cabinetry and quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances, and wide-planked wood flooring. Residents will have access to some hotel services, including rooftop amenities and pool, a garden restaurant, and an outdoor cigar lounge. A shared amenity deck at level 10 will have pool-side service for hotel guests and apartment residents. Pre-leasing for the tower residences begins October 2019, with a projected fall 2020 completion date. La Colombe d’Or Hotel & Residences, 3410 Montrose Blvd., livelacolombedor.com.
